How StakeOnMe uses 3Box to personalize meTokens

StakeOnMe is the newest platform to integrate with 3Box Profiles. StakeOnMe introduces a new type of personal token framework, called meTokens, which enables anyone to purchase collateralized deeds to anyone else’s future labor. The platform uses 3Box to improve trust between users as they stake money on one another.

The Problem

StakeOnMe is a social platform — a place to host your own meToken profile page and discover those of other “investable” people. Because the goal of the platform is for it to scale to serve a wide range of users, StakeOneMe faces a number of unique challenge, including and most notably user verification: how do you prove the person you’re investing in is really who they say they are?

The original attempt to solve to this problem was to host all user profiles on IPFS, build custom profile management tools, and then encourage users to self-identify their accounts on Twitter and other social channels. Unfortunately, this would have been burdensome to build and still left room for mistrust.

With a wallet full of other people’s tokens, how do you verify each and every person?

The Solution

3Box profiles turned out to be the perfect solution to handle both account management and user verification.

By importing users’ data from 3Box directly into StakeOnMe, the platform was able to scale its onboarding faster than any custom tool would allow. StakeOnMe now auto-populates users’ meToken profiles with their avatar, name, and 3Box account url.

The additional benefit of linking to users’ 3Box accounts is that it enables potential meToken user and investors with the ability to explore meToken owner’s on-chain history and reputation. Because meToken owners are able to verify their Twitter and GitHub accounts using 3Box — as well as display any other achievements such as POAP Badges — meToken users and investors can now validate the identities of the people in their portfolio.
